Thanks for the lovely comments on Gurls Gurls Gurls, the video of 3yo Mr G saying ‘girls’. It started a whole debate over accents and 3yo pronunciation. Fellow Nottingham resident Jen from Love Chic Living reckoned it had a Nottingham twang, It’s quite a tricky accent to place Notts, so I take her ‘wurd’ as gospel, even though she doesn’t have the local accent, she’s lived here a little longer than me. The Boy and Me’s nearly 3 year old says ‘wurld’ too. And Mummy Mummy Mum says her 3 yo daughter says ‘girls’ in an Essex accent in Hampshire, so maybe it’s just a 3 year old thing.
I was reminded of my daughter singing A Whole New World, from Aladdin when she was 3. I dug out the video, she’s not going to thank me for this when she’s older, it’s very funny, but it is very cute. And at age 5 she sings a whole lot better than her mum can, so who knows, maybe they’ll be digging this one out to embarrass her on X factor 2025.
What do/did your kids mispronounce?
It’s very sweet! My youngest one always used to mispronounce ‘magazine’ as ‘mazamine’, and that’s just reminded me the eldest one use to say ‘radidator’ for ‘radiator’. Funny how these things stay with you long after they’ve disappeared.

My 3yo has recently started rolling her Rs like the Israeli’s do (think German R sound). So she says, “Mummy I’m hungrrrry, I want ice crrrrream.” Serves me right I suppose. *sighs*

LOL. My wee man pronounces ‘hotel’ as ‘ho-tayl’. Very cute. Also thinks the expression ‘supposed to be’ is ‘upposed to be’. Bless

My little guy has a real mixed-bag accent at the moment. Several words like “Mummy” and “naughty” are said à la Peppa Pig – even though we have always referred to me as Mammy, he just refuses to pronounce it that way.
In a few of his words, I can clearly hear his father’s accent, and the other day when he said to me “I don’t think so, what do you think?” I had to admit, it was a striking copy of my own accent, so country Irish all the way there! Who knows what he’ll end up sounding like!

Awh, so cute! Miss A says Lolok, for yoghurt, no amount of getting her to repeat it back will change it. It sounds really sweet tho
