If you have a spring in your step and fancy sprucing up your home for summer, now is the time to start your shopping. Although dark hues and cosy fireplaces might be the perfect look for cold, harsh winter, summertime calls for something quite different. Try a fresh and clean new look to help you enjoy the warm summer months in style.
Bring the outdoors inside
Spend a lot of time out in the garden during the summer? With the Great British weather being as it is, in reality, you’re probably going to spend more time indoors wishing it was sunny, so swap a few ornaments on your mantle with garden themed accessories.
Add a touch of greenery
Take a trip to the garden centre or local flower shop and buy a few plants that create warmth. How about planting sunflower seeds, for example? It’s hard not to smile when you see one of these big yellow flowers growing taller every day.
Hang a mirror above the fireplace
A fireplace it is perfect on a cold dark evening in the middle of December, but it’s unlikely to bring the same joy in August. Try to take the focus away from it by clearing it out, removing the logs, placing a vase of fresh flowers on the mantle and hanging a mirror on the wall above.
Give your furniture a makeover
Whether it’s your dining chairs, coffee table or corner sofa, furniture can start to look tired, and tired does not create a bright and breezy summer look. Change your place mats and coasters to add a splash of fun or colour, change the colour of the throw on the sofa and switch the heavy curtains for light roller blinds.
Introduce a floral scent
One of my favourite things about summer is the smell. The freshly cut grass, the newly potted plants, the smoke from the neighbours BBQ and the smell of suncream. Obviously you don’t want your living room to smell like a bottle of SPF15, but adding some pot pourri or a plug-in air freshener could help bring that summery feel inside.
